Six-week highway improvement programme to start on Tuesday

A programme of highway surface upgrades will take place around the Island over the next six weeks, starting on Tuesday 23 July.

Micro asphalt improves the texture of the road surface, helping to disperse water from vehicle tyres during wet weather and reducing the likelihood of skidding.

It also seal cracks in the surface and, as it can be applied in varying thicknesses, is used to improve ride quality by levelling ruts and depressions.

The roads which are being treated are:

  • A5 Douglas Road (Orrisdale to Clagh Vane)
  • Cronk Honna (Tennis Cottage to Ballachurry Road)
  • Ballachurry Road (Ballakillowey Roundabout to Ballachurry Road)
  • Ballafesson Road (Bay View Road to Ballachurry Road)
  • Staarvey Road (Cronk-y-Voddy to Switchback)
  • Castletown Bypass (S100 start/finish straight)
  • Maynrys, Castletown (excluding roundabout)

There will be speed restriction signs at intervals along the roads being treated, and the speed limit must be adhered to until the signs are removed.

Road markings will be removed in advance of the surface treatment and motorists are asked to drive with care.

Traffic controls will be in place and motorists are asked to respect the signs. There may be a need to close some roads during working hours while the surfacing is carried out. Visit the government website at gov.im/roadwatch to stay up to date.

The work is to be carried out by Colas IoM Ltd, on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure, and Graeme Higgins is able to help with any queries – call 828806.

A leaflet has been produced to explain the process to affected residents and address frequently asked questions.
