Registrations are now open for the annual ‘Tourism Industry Day’ which is taking place on Tuesday 25th February 2020 at the Villa Marina. Hosted by the Visit Isle of Man Agency, an Executive Agency within the Department for Enterprise, the event provides an opportunity for businesses within the tourism industry to find out more about the Island’s strategic direction for visitor growth. Delegates will also have the opportunity to attend workshops designed to enhance business performance.
Accommodation providers, activity and attraction providers, restaurateurs and retailers are all encouraged to attend, however, any Isle of Man businesses with an interest in tourism and the visitor economy are welcome.
The main morning presentation will be led by Angela Byrne, Head of Visit Isle of Man, and Ranald Caldwell, Non-Executive Chairman of the Visit Agency. Together they will deliver an overview of the agency’s strategy for 2020-2023 to increase visitor growth, and explain how the agency intends to promote and develop the Isle of Man as a quality, year-round visitor destination over the next three years.
Rob Callister MHK, Political Member with responsibility for Visit Isle of Man and Motorsport commented:
‘The competition for the tourism pound is fiercer than ever and in order to compete effectively we must create a common sense of purpose and strategic direction to build and promote the Isle of Man as a quality visitor destination. I would encourage all businesses to take advantage of the support offered by the Visit Isle of Man Agency as part of their ongoing strategy to work with industry partners to continue growing our visitor economy.’
Angela Byrne, Head of Visit Isle of Man Agency, added:
‘This will be the ninth Tourism Industry Day hosted by Visit Isle of Man and a significant one as we outline our strategy that will direct the development, management and promotion of tourism and the visitor economy in the Isle of Man until 2023. In recent years there have been significant changes in consumer behaviour, not least with the rise in the use of technology. It’s therefore vital the agency continues to develop effective partnerships with tourism trade and industry bodies to identify training needs and assistance with the provision of effective solutions.
‘We are delighted to have secured Linda Moir, expert in HR and customer service, as a keynote speaker. From Virgin Atlantic’s award winning service to the exemplary front of house service at the London 2012’s Olympic and Paralympic Games, Linda has been responsible for leading outstanding operations in HR and customer service management and will be providing insights on how differentiated customer experience can drive enhanced performance for tourism businesses.’
In the afternoon, there will be a number of informative workshops and sessions on key topics to enable tourism businesses to learn tips and tools in which to help develop their business. The event also offers opportunities throughout the day to network with stakeholders and find out more information on grants and assistance schemes available to tourism businesses.
The Tourism Industry Day is free to attend and refreshments are provided throughout the day by accredited Taste Isle of Man members Wicked Wagon and The Alpine.
