Peel harbour Footbridge

revised timings of peel harbour footbridge

The Harbours Division of the Department of Infrastructure has decided to restrict the movements of the Peel Swing Bridge to no more than five per tide following an inspection by the Department’s Works Division which revealed that the two rear roller bearings on the turning mechanism have started to fail.

Although the exact times that the bridge will be swung cannot be identified accurately in advance as it is governed by the tide, it is intended that the bridge will be swung open as the incoming tide causes the gate to open. It will then be left open for 20 to 30 minutes to enable boats to move in and out of the harbour. The bridge will then be closed and left closed for 30 minutes. This process will be repeated as close to the hour and half hour as is practicable. The bridge will only be opened for boats if there is a request to do so otherwise it will remain closed and available for pedestrians. Outside of the peak daytime/good weather periods it is expected that this restriction will be managed more flexibly due to the reduced number of boat movements. However, harbour users should be aware that there may be some delays compared with current usage. Boat owners can communicate with Harbour staff or the Marine Operations Centre on vhf channel 12.
