Interim Chief Executive Officer Kathryn Magson has taken the reins at the Department of Health and Social Care at the start of a two year secondment from a senior leadership position in the UK.
Ms Magson joins the department from NHS Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group which she has led since 2017, and she takes over the CEO role from Angela Murray who becomes the department’s first Chief Operating Officer.
Kathryn Magson will steer the DHSC through a period of challenge and change, as the programme to transform the Island’s health and care services, moves forward.
She was welcomed to the department by Minister David Ashford and senior colleagues, and in her first few weeks has spent time hosting a round of meetings with officers across the department and wider government colleagues to understand their responsibilities.
Kathryn Magson said:
‘I am delighted to be taking the helm in a department whose services matter so much to every person on this Island. My experience in working with clinicians and stakeholders to develop compassionate and sustainable health and care services for local people, will serve the Island well. As a newcomer I will be doing a lot of listening and asking questions, but am relishing the challenges ahead.’
She added:
‘I have had a very warm Manx welcome from the moment I arrived, and I very much look forward to getting to know our staff, all our partners, the public and our patients – and of course the Island itself!’
