Any household which has not yet returned its 2026 Census must do so by 19 November to meet its legal obligation.
Every home is required to submit a completed Census form. Failing to do so may result in further action under the Census Act 1929, including enforcement proceedings and potentially a financial penalty.
Since Census Night on 26 April householders have had almost six months to return their forms. The Census Office has now issued non-compliance letters to remaining homes, explaining why they must take immediate action.
Any outstanding cases after the November deadline will be reviewed, taking into account notices issued, the number of attempts made to contact the household and support offered.
So far 91 per cent of Census forms have been completed. The information collected provides vital insight into the Isle of Man’s population and communities and helps inform decisions about key services, including health care, education, housing and transport.
The Census Office continues to provide advice and support to anyone who needs help to complete their form. Non-compliance letters explain how to complete a Census form securely online through the Census 2026 website using a phone, tablet or computer. Forms can also be completed by telephone, on paper or with help from a Census Field Officer.
Households which receive a non-compliance letter but have already completed their Census return, or believe the letter was sent in error, should contact the Census team immediately.
