European Union (Maldives Sanctions)(Revocation)Order 2019 and Maldives Sanctions (Revocation) Regulations 2019

The above Order and Regulations have been made following the Council of the European Union’s decision to repeal restrictive measures against the Maldives, following an improvement in the political situation in the country.

Council Regulation (EU) 2018/1001 provided for the possibility of imposing a travel ban and an asset freeze on persons and entities responsible for undermining the rule of law or obstructing an inclusive political solution in the Maldives, as well as persons and entities responsible for serious human rights violations.

No persons or entities were ever listed under this sanctions regime.
