His Excellency The Lieutenant Governor has appointed Alexander Armstrong to be a Deputy High Bailiff.
The appointment was made on the advice of an independent selection panel, chaired by the First Deemster and Clerk of the Rolls, His Honour the Deemster Corlett.
Mr Armstrong will enter office following the retirement of Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith, who leaves the post in December 2026 after more than seven years’ service.
Mr Armstrong was educated locally at Onchan Primary and St Ninian’s High Schools before graduating from the University of Kent. He was called to the Manx Bar in 2017 and enjoyed a diverse private practice before joining the Isle of Man Courts & Tribunals Service. He has served as a Legal Officer in the General Registry since 2022 and as a part-time Judicial Officer and Deputy Coroner of Inquests since 2024.
Mr Armstrong said:
‘It is an honour to be appointed a Deputy High Bailiff and a privilege to serve the Isle of Man and its community. I shall endeavour to do so to the best of my ability.’
Mr Armstrong will be known as His Worship Deputy High Bailiff Armstrong and will be sworn into office in January 2027.
