Update: New dental service to increase access for patients in the North

Manx Care is increasing access to NHS dental care in the North of the Island with a new service operating from the dental unit at Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital from Monday 9 November 2026.

The opening of the unit had been planned for the previous week but was delayed to allow for some minor repairs due to the recent storms.

A salaried dentist will provide appointments from the Ramsey unit, giving patients in the North greater access to NHS dental treatment. Manx Care is also actively seeking to recruit a further dentist to increase capacity and support more patients requiring dental care.

Initially, appointments from the new service will be available for:

  • Patients from the North who are currently on the NHS dental waiting list. These patients will be contacted directly by Manx Care and do not need to contact the service separately
  • Unregistered patients requiring emergency dental treatment; and
  • Smile Dental patients requiring urgent or emergency care until the practice resumes routine services

A Manx Care spokesperson said:

‘The opening of the dental unit in Ramsey will provide additional NHS dental capacity for the North and help us support people who are currently waiting to access dental care.

Although the opening of the Ramsey unit has unfortunately been delayed following damage to the building during the recent stormy weather, we are pleased that the service will now begin seeing patients from Monday 9 November.’
