Free disc parking on walkway to support local economy over festive period

Douglas Promenade walkway will open for Christmas parking on Thursday (November 22).

The area between the War Memorial and the Bottleneck car park will become a designated two-hour disc parking zone until Sunday 6 January 2019 to provide additional spaces for shoppers.

Spaces for disabled users have been introduced this year, with a four-hour limit, opposite Howard Street and Regent Street.

Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer MHK said:

‘Supporting the local economy is the key factor in allowing parking on the promenade during the festive period. It is the busiest time of the year for many retailers, and it’s important to provide extra spaces.’

Parking will be available from the afternoon to coincide with Thursday evening’s switch-on of the Christmas lights in Douglas and the start of late-night shopping.
